Our guide to easy kitchen cleaning

If you feel like you are constantly battling to keep on top of your kitchen chores, then read on for our easy guide to keeping your kitchen clean and tidy -with minimum effort.

Start off prepared

Before you start cleaning you need to make sure that you have the right cleaning products for the jobs that you will be doing.  So, make sure that you are well stocked up on items like bleach, washing up liquid, floor cleaner, disinfectant, rubber gloves and so forth.  You’ll also want to make sure that you have plenty of cleaning cloths, as it’s amazing how many of these you’ll go through.  (Keep your cleaning products somewhere safe and kept out of the reach of small children).

Make sure your kitchen items have a home

To maximise the space that you have on your kitchen worktops, put kitchen appliances that you don’t use very often, in a drawer or cupboard.  Keep cutlery tidied away in a drawer and likewise any kitchen utensils.  If you have space in your kitchen to store food items in cupboards, then do so, as again this will free-up space and look less cluttered.

Keep on top of your recycling

It’s great to recycle and do your bit for the planet, but it’s not so great if you have empty cornflake packets and tin cans piled up in your kitchen.  If you don’t have the space to keep your recycling bins inside, then invest in a smaller box or a bag, that you can put your items into and once it’s full you can empty them into the bins.  But don’t let the box or bag overflow as this is defeating the object entirely.

Do the dishes

If you don’t have a dishwasher, then get into the routine of washing up your dishes once you have used them, instead of leaving them to pile up.  Not only will this mean that you’ll be more likely to do this chore, but your kitchen will look much tidier and will be less smelly.  And, if you do have a dishwasher remember to put the machine on as soon as it is full and then empty it as soon as you can, once it has finished its cycle.

 Clean in small bursts

It’s better to clean in small bursts and tidy up as you go along, rather than being faced with the task of having to clean for hours (unless you love cleaning of course!).  So, next time you finish eating your breakfast try to clean up there and then.  You’ll thank yourself when you walk into a nice clean kitchen, after a hard day at the office.

Whistle while you work

It’s a fact that music helps you finish boring tasks faster.  So, put on your favourite music channel or playlist and you’ll soon whizz through those dishes in no time!
